OpenAI CEO Sam Altman together with Microsoft executives and AMD representatives and CoreWeave officials appeared before Congress to discuss AI’s revolutionary capabilities and the necessity of sustaining US dominance against Chinese competition. Altman stated that AI represents a potential impact greater than the internet while advocating for infrastructure and energy investments. The hearing led by Sen. Ted Cruz examined AI’s opportunities together with its risks and global competition because China plans to become the leader in AI by 2030. Members of the Senate demonstrated bipartisan agreement about cybersecurity concerns and privacy issues and the spread of misinformation through artificial intelligence. The executives advocated for easier AI project policies because they warned that export controls would push allies toward Chinese technology solutions. Sen. Tammy Duckworth criticized Trump and Elon Musk’s cuts to federal research, while Sen. Bernie Moreno questioned Biden’s energy policies. The US must win the AI race to defend American values according to Sen. Brian Schatz while the hearing maintained a collaborative atmosphere despite partisan exchanges. The testimony highlighted the immediate need to manage innovation through regulation as a response to China’s growing ambitions.
