Amazon will dedicate at least $20 billion to build new data centers throughout Pennsylvania because the company needs to support growing demand for generative AI and cloud services.
The announced investment will establish 1,250 skilled positions while generating thousands of additional jobs throughout Amazon Web Services’ supply chain network according to the company. The first two locations for the planned campuses will be Salem Township and Falls Township.
Amazon announced its Pennsylvania expansion after committing $10 billion to North Carolina and more than $5 billion to Taiwan for cloud infrastructure development to meet increasing demand for advanced AI models and enterprise computing power.
Amazon spends the most money in the AI arms race with first-quarter capital expenditures reaching about $25 billion. The company predicts its capital expenditure levels will remain steady throughout the remainder of the year.
The $20 billion Pennsylvania project does not indicate whether it belongs to existing plans and the company failed to disclose when the investment will be finished.
Big Tech companies including Amazon and Microsoft and Google invest massive funds into data centers to develop the digital infrastructure needed for the AI revolution.
